28th November 2015 - The band started Christmas early with Carols at the Ysgol Morganwg's Christmas Fete. The band is looking forward to a busy Christmas season with our first concert at Hope Church, Tonypandy on Sunday 6th December.

21st November 2015 – Another successful day’s contesting at the SEWBBA competition in Merthyr Tydfil, saw the band take 2nd place which secured a 2nd place finish in this year’s league.

Congratulations to MD Alan Gibbs and the band on another years successful contesting.

7th November 2015 - The band shared the stage with Cowbridge Male Voice Choir providing an entertaining evening of music at Bethania Baptist Chapel, Pontyclun. The program featured an enjoyable mixture of modern and traditional music with solos from Rob Burnett, Robin Davies and Holly Horsell. The program also included an arrangement of a traditional Welsh love song by the band’s composer in residence Andrew Keegan.

The band would like to thank Cowbridge Male Voice Choir and everyone in the audience who turned out to support us.

28th October 2015 - The band is now in the Top 200 Brass bands in the world for the first time in recent years, according to the latest ranking from, which is based on recent contest results. We are currently ranked number 196 out of thousands of bands across the world!

3rd October 2015 - another fine contest performance on 'Graces of Love' at the Burry Port WWBBA competition saw the band awarded 2nd prize in the 2nd Section, with the Best Soloist prize awarded to our evergreen Solo Euphonium Rob Burnett.

17th September 2015 - An excellent performance from the band at the National Finals in Cheltenham saw the band placed in a very creditable 9th place out of the 18 bands competing.

16th/17th May 2015 - another great contesting weekend for the band. On Saturday the band achieved 1st place in the 2nd section of the SEWBBA Spring contest at Merthyr Tydfil, with Ebbw Valley Brass in 2nd place and Crosskeys Silver in 3rd. Our Solo Euphonium Rob Burnett won the Best Instrumentalist prize for a great performance on 'Mountain Views'. The next day saw the band off to a 7 a.m. start, heading to Weston-Super-Mare contest where we achieved another podium finish, being awarded third prize. A very enjoyable weekend all round!

21st March 2015 - a great performance from the band at the Welsh Regionals Championships in Swansea was rewarded with 2nd prize, a place in the National Championships at Cheltenham in September, and promotion to the 2nd section next year. Well done to the MD and all the players on stage, and a great birthday present for MD Alan Gibbs!

14th December 2014 - Another sell-out concert at St Albans churchTonyrefail - great evening all round!

13th September 2014 - A great result for the band, being placed 3rd out of the 12 Welsh & English bands at the Miners Welfare Entertainment Contest at Porthcawl. The band's programme included a rousing performance of 'Dunndonnell' by Philip Sparke, and a wonderful rendition of the Denzil Stephens arrangement of 'Myfanwy' by Euphonium soloist Rob Burnett.

18th May 2014 - Another successful outing for the band at the Weston-Super-Mare contest, winning 2nd place in the 3rd section, with our bass players winning the 'Best Bass Section' award for the 2nd year in a row!

as the band takes 2nd place at the Ross GBBA contest.

23rd November - Following today's Blaenavon contest, Mid-Rhondda Band have been confirmed as SEWBBA Third Section Champions for 2013, winning the T.J. Powell trophy!!

5th October - Well done to Alan Gibbs and all the players for achieving another podium finish taking 3rd place in the 3rd section at the West Wales Festival of Brass Burry Port.

15th September - another cup for the band's trophy cabinet!! The band were awarded the £200 prize and CISWO cup for the most entertaining performance at the Miner's Welfare Entertainment Contest in Porthcawl.

18th May - congratulations to MD Alan Gibbs and the band on two great contest performances over the weekend of 17th/18th May. On Saturday 17th the band picked up the Runner-Up prize in the 3rd section at the Ebbw Vale contest playing 'Kaleidoscope' by Philp Sparke, with our flugel horn player Jayne Moxon winning the award and cup for Best Instrumentalist.

On Sunday 18th the band scooped another impressive 2nd place in the 3rd Section at the Weston-Super-Mare contest, with our bass players winning the prize for 'Best Bass Section'. Congratulations to Graham Sheppard (Bb Bass), Jeff Traylor (Eb Bass) and Alex Tait (Eb Bass).
